A Message from The Acting Vice- Chancellor:

Akwa Ibom State University of Technology (AKUTECH) will open its doors to students by September, 2009. By that time physical infrastructure at Mkpat Enin Campus in the sourthern part of the State and Obio Akpa  in the central part, would have been adequately provided.

The policy thrust of His Excellency, Chief Godswill Akpabio, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, is to provide targeted education that will generate high-level manpower in Akwa Ibom State; and arrest the drift and inadequacy in the nation’s educational system, where about 100 universities cater for a teeming population of 140 million Nigerians. To this end, Akwa Ibom State University of Technology is being re-positioned to embrace the philosophy, goals, paradigm and modus operandi of a collegiate, multi-campus, conventional university, with a strong science and technology bias; but also offering degree programmes in management, law, education, social sciences and arts.

Academic activities will commence in 2009 with engineering, agriculture, geosciences, and food science and technology.  The university will be re-named Akwa Ibom State University; with the enabling law amended accordingly by the State House of Assembly.
